Dental Bridge in Lewiston Maine

A dental bridge is designed to close a gap due to the loss of teeth. Compared to dental implants, dental bridges are cost-effective solutions for the gaps left behind when one or more teeth get knocked out or have to be extracted due to severe dental decay. There are multiple types of bridges that are designed for different areas of the mouth.

Dental Implants Vs Bridges

A dental implant is a singular synthetic tooth that is implanted in place of a missing tooth. They are durable and long lasting but tend to cost more money. At Joy Dentistry we provide All-On-4 implants, which involve getting multiple implants simultaneously to make the process easier and more cost-effective. However, many patients still opt for dental bridges. Like implants, bridges are custom-made to match the fit and color of the surrounding teeth. Dental bridges are a great solution for missing teeth especially if you are not ready to switch to a full set of dentures.

Different Types of Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are not just for looks. Like implants, dental bridges can help maintain your bite alignment which is good for your jaw. Dental bridges can also prevent teeth from shifting into the available space left behind by a knocked-out tooth. There are different types of bridges that can be used depending on which teeth you are missing and which teeth are nearby. A traditional dental bridges uses a singular anchor tooth on either side of the gap, whether you are filling in a gap left behind by one tooth or multiple, a traditional bridge just needs two anchors. The anchor teeth receive dental crowns that will keep the false teeth in place. In some cases a cantilever dental bridge is necessary. This bridge only uses a single anchor tooth. This bridge may be less durable than a traditional bridge, but in some cases is necessary if there is not a suitable anchor tooth on either side of the gap. There are also dental bridges that use dental implants as anchors instead of natural teeth. The best way to find the right fit for your smile is to make a consultation with our dental team.

Dental Implants

In some cases, dental implants may be recommended instead of dental bridges, implants are longer-lasting and more durable. At Joy Dentistry we want to make sure every patient is matched to the best treatment option for their smile.

Dentures

Alternatively, dentures may be recommended to older patients who have already lost many of their teeth. A full set of dentures can restore your smile and act as a permanent solution to missing teeth.
